On 1st February, 1915, the 1st Yorkshire light Infantry battalion of 83 Brigade, 28th Division moved to Ypres where they relieved French troops in trenches either side of the Ypres-Comines canal and where they remained there until relieved on 4th February. The records show that Harry Pimm was killed on 5th February when the battalion left reserve billets and marched to farm houses near Ouderdom. He is commemorated on the Menin Gate memorial to the missing which suggests that he was killed in battle, perhaps having been temporarily attached to another unit. Or he may have been killed by shell fire on that day. The battalion diary sheds no light on his death. |
